A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THIS SPOT
This beautiful spot was once one of the busiest places on The Grand Union Canal. The cute little toll office was a hub of activity as these gauging locks were where the toll keeper checked how much cargo boats were carrying up and down the Grand Union Canal. He used a gauging rod to measure how high the boat sat out of the water to calculate the amount of cargo it carried. From that, he could work out the toll to be paid to use the canal.
