Act One Cinema (Acton Old Library) Illustrated Card

This card features the historic Acton Old Library created exclusively by Charlotte Berridge.

All my cards are printed on 300gsm recycled card, supplied with a recycled envelope. They are carefully hand packaged in a biodegradable cellophane bag. Each folded card measures approx 105mm wide x 148mm tall.

All cards are blank inside for your own message.

A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THIS BUILDING
The beautiful Grade 2 Listed building was originally designed by Maurice B.Adams for philanthropist John Passmore Edwards. The library was named after him as he paid £4,000 of the £6,690 costs to build it. It was opened in 1900 by American Ambassador Joseph Choate. It was a free public lending library containing around 8,000 books of “wholesome literature”. Both Passmore & Choate supported the temperance movement, so the library was created, in part, as an alternative for the poor to the vice (as they saw it) of alcohol found in the many pubs of Acton.

Despite the cafe serving some great alcoholic drinks (along side it’s amazing ice cream – see my previous post) I’m pretty sure Passmore & Choate would approve of the amazing new lease of life the cinema will bring to this building and to the people of Acton.
